Our Curriculum

Curriculum Highlights

At Crakehall CE Primary School, we ensure that we provide a broad and balanced curriculum that not just meets but exceeds the expectations of the National Curriculum.

However, there are some subjects that we consider to be real strengths of our curriculum offer.  These are:

Early Reading and Phonics

We LOVE to read at Crakehall. Our school has been working very hard this academic year on developing its provision for early reading and phonics.  All staff have received comprehensive training on a new cutting-edge training programme and are delivering high-quality phonics sessions on a daily basis, ensuring that every child becomes a fluent and competent reader, irrespective of their starting point. Reading for pleasure is our top priority and as a school we continue to immerse ourselves with new and exciting books!

Mathematics

Maths teaching is really strong throughout the school and uses a mastery approach to learning.  This subject is led by our Federation 'Mastery Specialist' who works closely with our local Maths Hub - nationally recognised organisations who provide support and direction to other schools.

Forest School

At Crakehall you will often see children head to toe in mud after enjoying and engaging in the wonderful outdoors within our local environment. All our children take part in Forest School every year. EYFS children enjoy a full day of Forest School each week. Within these sessions children learn key life and outdoor skills as well as applying their knowledge from the rest of the curriculum. The rest of the school have a dedicated term (half a day a week) to Forest School. Children follow the Wild Passport skills to progress and develop their knowledge and understanding. These sessions are essential for understanding the world around us as well as offering some much-needed mindfulness and peace.
